Sunday 23rd Feb - Lisburn, NI. The Northern Ireland Karate Board hosted their inaugural open championship.

The event attracted 175 entries from across Northern Ireland, Ireland, England & Wales, amongst them was David Lennox from our Ballymena club, this was David's second competition appearance, this time in the male veterans kata category and he secured a joint bronze medal.

A keen martial artist, David always sets an example to be one of the first to put himself forward for opportunities like this to round out his experience of karate as more than just the club he occupies himself with for an hour and a half on a Wednesday in order to get another belt. Davids dedication speaks for itself in results like this from his second competition appearance.

Congratulations to David and everybody who participated and placed on Sunday, even if you didn't get the outcome you hoped for, the spirit of karate lies in stepping out of your comfort zone and rising to the challenge.

CKA extends their thanks to NIKB for organising the event and giving Karateka like David a gateway to competition in Northern Ireland and beyond, we hope Davids step onto the tatami inspires more karateka in the future.
